The classic hand hoe was originally designed to thin out beets and chicory in the vegetable garden, but it is also perfectly capable to remove weeds and aerate the soil. The blade is welded to the neck on a specific angle so that it does not strain the wrist when the hand hoe is used close to the ground.

The Dutch name for this tool is “Schrepel”, which is a word in a dialect from a southern province in the Netherlands called Zeeland. Schrepel means skinny or thin, which is a reference to the long, thin neck that connects the blade to the handle. The hand hoe is a classic Dutch tool that was developed in the 19th century for the labor intensive work of thinning out sugar beets. The hand hoe has an asymmetric shape to improve the precision and is similar in function to the halfmoon pull hoe. The hand hoe is available in a left and right variant and with a cherry or ash handle. The sizes of the blade range from 8 to 14cm.
